Carl Jr. was born April 17, 1942 in Tillamook, OR to Carl and Eva (Lorenz) Rawe. He died at his home in Gresham, OR on June 27, 2008 after a sudden illness.
Carl Jr., also known as “Sonny” to his family and friends, grew up in Tillamook at the family dairy farm on Bewley Creek Rd. He attended South Prairie Grade School and graduated from Tillamook High School in 1960.
Carl Jr. served in the Army National Guard and attended college at Pacific University where he earned his Bachelor Degree in Sociology and Psychology. During his college years he returned home every school break to work on the family dairy. He went on to Central Washington State University and received his Masters in School Psychology and Counseling.
Carl Jr. began his career at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, OR where he taught and later became Dean of Financial Aid.
Education was very important to Carl Jr. and in 1997 he accomplished a personal goal by earning his Doctorate Degree in Community College Education from Oregon State University. After earning this degree, Dr. Rawe “rewarded” himself by buying a Harley Davidson motorcycle and put many miles on it as he traveled the countryside.
After retiring from Mt. Hood Community College, he became involved in Cowboy Single Action Shooting and was a member of the Single Action Shooters Society, where he was known as “Tillamook Kidd”. He enjoyed traveling to shooting competitions and events with his friends.
Carl Jr. is survived by his wife, Patti; daughter, Tia Rawe; children, Wendy Lafady, Robert Lafady and Lindsay DeLaRosa; grandaughter Tabitha DeLaRosa; sister, Diann Fox and brother-in-law Robert Fox; nieces Shelley Fox-Hurliman, Angela Fox; nephew, Michael Fox and many other friends and loved ones.
Interment will be at Sunset Heights Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Tillamook.
