I say give me a horse that was born just to run
And I’ll give him his head toward the day’s setting sun.
I’ll tie off my bedroll and strap on my gun
And I’ll ride!
Over the plains in the late summer breeze
Up the Front Range through the tall Aspen trees
Heading for passes before the big freeze
And I’ll ride!
Past old Pueblo towers that still somehow stand
We’ll hear Bull Elk bugle like a high Autumn band
My ears and my heart will be filled with this land
And I’ll ride!
Not sure where I’m going or what I might find
Like a man just reborn who is no longer blind
I will search for some peace in my soul and my mind
And I’ll ride!
I know that I’ll find what I seek sometime soon
As the coyotes each night sing their lively old tune
My trail will be lit by that bright western moon
And I’ll ride!
An end to the journey may be far away
But the end’s not important I’ve heard some folks say
It’s the living and learning you’ll do on the way
So I’ll ride!
