At last the icy tendrils shrink in welcome wet defeat
Cowering in canyon shade for now
The warming breath of Spring again caresses sun splashed fields
As they await the farmer and the plow
The grip of icy mornings now invigorates instead
As it lingers just until the sun arrives
Then quickly, misty air above turns into brilliant clouds
The rocks up on the ridge seem more alive
Another winter fails to dim our love for this dear land
This tiny plot of earth we call our own
A Western paradise that’s worth the frigid winter past
A place where you can never be alone
Off in the distance ragged peaks remain in winter’s grasp
Reminding us of what we’ve just been through
Reminding that without the pain, the joy would be less pure
The sun would be less warm, the sky less blue
Rejoice in Spring, the time when things are born anew!
When all the future lies just up ahead!
The calves and foals dash out to greet the time they’ve never seen
Rejoice now that the frigid winter's dead.
Spring won’t last long, like many things it fades away too fast
And soon this feeling fades away as well
So try to keep the tiny spark alive through winter storms
Next year we’ll have more springtime tales to tell
