Robert Ronnie "Ron" Armstrong, 74, of Little York, died at 2:09 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2015, at home.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Sam Cherrington will officiate. Burial will be at Cedar Creek Cemetery, Little York. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
He was born March 21, 1941, in Galesburg, the son of Kenneth H. and Lila Fern Cherrington Armstrong. He married Mary Ewing on June 19, 1965, in Frankfurt, Germany.
Ron graduated from Galesburg High School in 1959. He served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1967, stationed in Frankfurt. After the Army, Ron farmed for 40 years, retiring in 2007. He was a gun enthusiast, enjoying skeet shooting and cowboy action shooting.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Mary; a daughter, Tricia (and Matt) Paul, Andalusia; and two grandchildren, Kenna Armstrong and Haley Paul. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister in infancy, Patricia Armstrong; and a son, David Armstrong on June 10, 2014.
