Charles Gayle Glackman, 70, of Fairland, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2012, at his residence.

Born Aug. 7, 1941, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Charles Glenn and Martha (Miller) Glackman. He married Carolyn Jean Fisher on Aug. 20, 1962, and she preceded him in death in 2006.

Survivors include his sons, Joe (wife, Tracy) Glackman and Glenn (wife, Amy) Glackman, both of Fairland; daughters, Roxanne Huey and Penny Glackman, both of Shelbyville; and grandchildren, Hannah Glackman, Erin Glackman, Miles Glackman, Dustin Duncan, Lane Logan, Bryce Logan, Steven Glackman, Sarah Glackman, Chase Glackman, Wayne Mohr, Vanessa Mohr and Jack Huey.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Charlie Glackman; and sister, Linda Ross.

Mr. Glackman was a lifelong resident of Fairland and graduated from Fairland High School in 1959.

He formerly owned and operated Glackman Standard Service Station and retired from Detroit Diesel Allison as an experimental engine builder in 1994.

Mr. Glackman was a U.S. Air Force 1915th veteran, serving during Vietnam. He also served as a volunteer firefighter and a Shelby County reserve sheriff's deputy.

Charles was a wonderful engraver, knife maker and gun repairman. He enjoyed competitive pistol shooting, hill climbing, hunting, flying, horses and his grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2012, at the funeral home, with Pastor Gary Strange officiating. Interment will be in Fairland Cemetery, with a military graveside service.
