William W. “Cap’n Bill” Stroud, 67, of Goessel, formally of Wichita and Udall, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Sunday (Jan. 20, 2008) at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis campus in Wichita.
He was born Dec. 9, 1940, in Arcadia.

He retired from Center Industries of Wichita and enjoyed time with his cowboy friends doing reenactments, shoots and rendezvous.

Bill recently was honored by the Udall Police Department for his heroic acts when he rescued a family of five from a frozen pond in March 1975.

He is survived by his wife, Margo Hyde Stroud of Goessel; brother, Jim (Donna) Stroud of Grove, Okla.; sister, Sherian (Jim) Conner of Wichita; sons Tony Stroud of Newton, Danny (Kim) Stroud of Newton, Shane (Tina) Baker of Wichita and Roy Reed III of Lakewood, Colo.; daughters, Tamara (JC) Randolph of Aurora, Colo., and Dusty Burns of Wichita; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his horse, Reno.
