Roger Dale McMullen, 65, died Friday, June 25, 2010 in an Abilene hospital. A memorial service with Tim Bundick and Rev. Melinda Lane officiating will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2010  at 10:00 A.M. in the Bethany Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, July 1, 2010 from 6:00 - 7:00 P.M.. Arrangements are under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.

Roger was born on August 29, 1944 in Breckenridge to Drury McMullen and Clara Myrtle Wimberly McMullen. He married Patsy Marie Rodgers on January 14, 1972 in Eastland. Roger began working for the Breckenridge Fire Department in 1966 and in 1975 became Fire Chief, a position he held until his death. Roger trained the life guards and gave swimming lessons at the city pool since it opened in 1992, he also taught CPR lessons and handgun classes. McMullen served many other roles with the city including building, plumbing, electrical, and fire inspector and also oversaw the animal services department. He was a member of the Breckenridge Masonic Lodge, member of Stephens County Coon Hunters Association, member of Single Action Shooters Association, and was the head of the Goodfellows for 10 years.

Mr. McMullen is survived by his wife, Pat McMullen of Breckenridge; daughters, Kim Waters and husband, Kennith of Albany, Kelly Rivera of San Antonio, and Karen Moore and husband, David of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; son, Wayne McMullen of Breckenridge; sister, Ida Summers of Breckenridge; 4 grandchildren, including Kaylee and Kourtnee Waters, he was more than their Pa he was their very best friend; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 6 brothers and 6 sisters. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels and they can be left at the funeral home.
