Cal Hair aka the Red Hill Ranger joined SASS while living in Newbury Park, CA after attending EOT in April 2003.  He and his wife retired in about 2005 and moved to their hometown of Cedar City, Utah where Cal was a founding member of the Coal Creek Cowboys.  For several years, the club was involved with the Utah Summer Games held in June.  The club later disbanded and was replaced by the Three Peaks Rangers.

Cal passed away suddenly in July 2008 from heart and respritory problems.  Marine Lt. Cal Hair served as a forward Marine spotter in the Vietnam War (among other dangerous assignments).  He rarely talked of his war experiences instead focusing on his family, friend and Church.  He was dedicated, humble and had an infectious laugh that was distinctive to everyone who know him.  He was active in Veterans causes and help build the US War Memorial in downtown Cedar City.  He is survived by his wife and two children (Jessie and Karen, plus grandchildren).

Cal was a man of high character.  I have always considered it a priviledge to know Cal and call him my friend.  His sudden passing cause my wife and me great pause.  My gun cart has only three badges:  My first badge, My wife's first badge (starting our journey) and the 2008 Summer Games medal (to remind us that we never know when this journey may end).  To Good Friends and Family -- the only things that really matter.  Cheers.
