Ronald Herman Brewer, 75, of the Bethlehem community, passed away on Thursday night, June 30, 2011, at Catawba Valley Hospice. He was born on Aug. 14, 1935, in Wilkes County to the late Herman and Edith Kendall Brewer. Ronald served in the U.S. Army as a Chief Warrant Officer during both the Korean conflict and Vietnam, from which he earned various medals. In addition, he served in the North Carolina National Guard for over a year. He worked as an insurance agent and also owned the Latino food mart on Springs Road in Hickory for over 20 years.  He was a member of the Bethlehem Bass Club as well as the Gunpowder Creek Regulators. Ronald enjoyed fishing and was an avid target shooter.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Olga Reyes Brewer, of the home; two daughters, Beth Hoffman, of Wilkes-boro, and Amy Brewer, of the Outer Banks; and his grandson, William Hoffman, of Wilkesboro. He also leaves behind a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, and dear friends.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. today, Sunday, July 3, at Grace Baptist Church in Bethlehem. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. After the memorial service, military honors will be conducted in the churchyard to honor his memory.
