When I’m gone just lay me down beneath this bright blue  sky
I kind of like to watch the clouds as they go rolling by

Some guys say, ”Put me face down, so the world can kiss my ass!”
I’d never say a thing like that. It hasn’t any class.

I like to hear the coyotes sing on chilly moonlit nights
And see the western sky lit up with all of Heaven’s lights

Out on the prairie wide is fine, or in a canyon deep
As long as I’m out West I know I’ll have a peaceful sleep

Don’t fret about me being all alone beneath the sod
I reckon I’ll rest easy there just lookin up at God

Memories of my family and good friends through all the years
Will keep a smile upon my face. There won’t be any tears.

Maybe some will think of me and just once in a while
A small thing that I did or said will give them cause to smile

And maybe on the grass above there’ll graze a fine stud roan
I may be out there by myself, but I won't be be alone

When I'm Gone
