Greener Grass

Just across that river and around those boulders there,
I’m sure that’s going to be the place for us.
Up through that pass and to the West, a short day’s ride or so,
there’ll be a place to settle in, I trust

I know the weather's turned to Hell but we’ll just wait it out.
I feel we’re just about to reach our goal.
The trail’s been hard but I don’t mind, that’s all behind us now,
although the miles have taken quite a toll.

Up on that mesa in the sun where that lone eagle flew.
Now that could be a place for our new home.
But just beyond, a valley, lush with water, game, and grass
could put an end to this strong urge to roam.

Across that burning desert lying sinister ahead,
a land of milk and honey could await.
It’s quite a risk to try to cross, where other men have failed.
To reach the other side might be our fate.

That lake with deep blue water that we now see in our path.
The far shore beckons softly, “Come to me”.
What wonders might await us there if we just travel on?
What wonders might our weary eyes yet see?

No reason we should look back now at all we’ve left behind.
The future waits beyond just one more hill.
With soaring spirits we seek out our place to finally rest.
We’ve not quite found it yet, but soon we will.
