Twilight settles on the prairie
Cattle stop their day long stroll
To the East a half moon rises
Ground Hogs scurry to their holes

Night time riders hum real softly
Just rehearsing evening songs
Cookie stops the old Chuck wagon
Two fat milk cows tag along

As the darkness slowly deepens
Fire is lit and coffee boils
eary drovers pull their saddles
Tired and sore from daily toil

Beans and biscuits  passed out quickly
Empty stomachs glad at last
Pulling on the jug and smiling
Boss tells tales of trail drives past

Greenhorns take a gentle thrashing
Laughter echoes in the dark
Cattle low and horses nicker
In the distance, coyotes bark

On the trail those hard days linger
But the nights they are a friend
And on the morrow in the sun
Cowboys do it all again

End of Day
