Brook park, Ohio – Grover Cleveland, SASS #22247, Life Member, aka Robert (Bob) Ross, passed away June 25, 2007.

Grover was born December 2nd , 1954.  The loving son of the late Robert E. and Evelyn (nee Mahoney).  Grover proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 1976 and was a Vietnam Veteran. Grover was employed by Proliance International Inc. for 31 years building automotive cooling system parts.  He was a long time member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local Number 416 as well as an active member in the Firelands Peacemakers.  Here at the monthly shoots he would come early and stay late to help with the set up and tear down of stages.  Grover was a man who was known to help without being asked and known for donating  supplies and time to the club.  He gave of himself and was happy to do so without anything in return.

He especially helped my wife and I, who wanted to become part of SASS, with training and  teaching me how to reload.  Being that he was a Range Officer, he made sure we would have fun and were safe during the matches.

I worked with this man 5 days a week.  Grover would come to my desk every morning and would talk about the latest on SASS or something gun related.  We had him over for dinner and found him to be a strong man of few words but spoke his mind when necessary.  He had a warm smile and a good heart.

Grover died at work on June 25th, 2007.  That day he was found on the ground  next to one of the header presses.  Nobody knew how long he was there.  I knelt by his side  hoping he would come back.  They said he died of a massive heart attack.  That day my wife and I lost a good friend, and almost a year later I wish he was by my desk in the morning asking how the modification on the side by side went and if I needed a hand.  Grover had no family, although the people who became his family were the people he worked with and the once a month members of SASS.  He always felt at home at the monthly shoots and I believe those were his happiest times.  He looked so forward to each time he would be a cowboy.

His estate went through probate and thankfully his beloved guns are now in the hands of his SASS family.

Grover was buried July 9th, 2007 at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio with full military honors.  He was a great friend, who enjoyed making a lot of black powder smoke as he was ducking to find the next target on a still day.  My wife and I and the Firelands Peacemakers miss Grover Cleveland dearly.............
